Qatar Weather Month by Month

December to February: winter (mild and sunny)

The coolest and most comfortable time of year. Days are around 22–24°C with clear skies, and nights can drop to 14–17°C, so a light jacket or sweater is useful after dark and in the desert. Morning fog sometimes affects flights in winter. This is peak season: book hotels and flights early. Events: Qatar National Day on 18 December brings parades and fireworks along the Corniche, and National Sports Day falls on the second Tuesday of February.

March and April: spring (warm, the last comfortable months)

March (27°C) is one of the best months of the year. April warms up to around 32°C, so plan outdoor sightseeing for mornings and evenings. The sea becomes pleasant for swimming. Late spring can bring dusty, windy days.

May to September: summer (extreme heat)

Daytime highs of 38–41°C, warm nights around 27–31°C, and from July humidity that makes it feel even hotter. The sea can reach 32–34°C, as warm as a bath. Early summer often brings the shamal, a strong north-westerly wind that can raise dust and sand. Doha does not stop in summer, it just moves indoors: malls, museums, indoor attractions, air-conditioned metro and evening walks. Avoid long outdoor activity between late morning and late afternoon.

October and November: autumn (cooling down)

October is still hot (34°C) and humid at the start, improving through the month. November (29°C) is excellent: warm days, warm sea and pleasant evenings. Big sporting events are often held in this period, and in recent years the Formula 1 race at Lusail has been held in late November or early December; hotels fill up and prices rise during race weekends.

Visiting in the cool season?

Book desert safaris, dhow cruises and city tours early, as November to March is the busiest time.

Ramadan and the Weather

Ramadan follows the Islamic lunar calendar, so it moves about 10–11 days earlier each year. In 2027 it is expected around early February to early March (exact dates depend on the moon sighting), during the pleasant season. Visitors are welcome, but eating, drinking and smoking in public during daylight hours are not allowed, opening hours change, and evenings become lively with iftar meals and events. Check the confirmed dates before you book.

Best Things to Do in Each Season

Winter and spring (November to April)

  • Desert safari and the Inland Sea (Khor Al Adaid): dune bashing, sandboarding and sunsets where the desert meets the sea. Only comfortable in the cool months.
  • Walking the Corniche and MIA Park: the 7 km waterfront promenade is at its best on winter afternoons.
  • Day trips: Al Zubarah Fort, Al Khor and the Purple Island mangroves. If you plan to drive, read our guide to renting a car in Qatar as a tourist.
  • Outdoor dining: terraces at Souq Waqif, Katara and The Pearl fill up every evening.
  • Camping: winter is the camping season, when residents and visitors set up in the desert and by the beaches.

Summer (May to October)

  • Museums: the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum of Qatar are perfect cool escapes.
  • Malls and indoor attractions: Doha’s big malls have ice rinks, indoor theme parks and cinemas.
  • Resort and hotel pools: many hotels sell day passes; go early morning or late afternoon.
  • Evening souq visits and dhow cruises: after sunset, temperatures drop a little and the city comes alive.
  • Water sports: the sea is very warm, so early-morning kayaking or paddleboarding is the most comfortable option.

What to Pack for Qatar’s Weather

November to March

  • Light, breathable clothes for the day
  • A light jacket or sweater for evenings, the desert and strong air conditioning
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat; the sun is strong even in winter
  • Swimwear for hotel pools and beaches

April to October

  • Loose, light-coloured cotton or linen clothes that still cover shoulders and knees for malls, museums and souqs
  • High-SPF sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat and a refillable water bottle
  • A small fan for queues and short walks, like this portable travel fan (Amazon affiliate link)
  • A thin layer for very cold air conditioning indoors

Our travel packing guide has a full checklist.

Staying Safe in the Heat

  • Drink water constantly, even when you do not feel thirsty.
  • Plan outdoor sights for early morning or after sunset, and spend the middle of the day indoors.
  • Use taxis or ride-hailing instead of long walks in summer. See how to get around from Hamad Airport to Doha city.
  • Book desert trips with licensed operators and avoid the dunes in the summer midday heat.
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion (dizziness, headache, nausea, heavy sweating) and get into air conditioning and drink water if you feel them.

Weather and a Doha Layover

If you are only passing through, the weather decides what you can do. In winter you can walk Souq Waqif and the Corniche at any time of day. In summer, stick to museums and the souq after sunset, or stay inside Hamad Airport’s air-conditioned indoor garden. See our Doha layover guide for 8, 12 and 24-hour plans.

Conclusion

The best time to visit Qatar is from November to March, when days are warm and sunny and evenings are cool. April and late October are good shoulder months for beach lovers, while June to September brings extreme heat but lower hotel prices and an indoor, evening-focused way of travelling. Whenever you go, pack for the sun, drink plenty of water, and plan your days around the temperature.
